The Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Awards was founded in 1950, and remains the oldest program recognizing design excellence worldwide. The program evaluates submissions on the “quality design of the highest form, [and] function” and aesthetics which are “a standard beyond ordinary consumer products and graphics.” The Museum convenes annually, and received a record number of submissions from the world's leading industrial and graphic design firms.
